GOMD / OCEAN-COLOUR CATALOGUE

IOCCG ocean-colour sensors and data archives

The sensor records and archive listings published by the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group (IOCCG) are transcribed from the source page. The numerical series are counted from this catalogue; they are not measurements of the ocean itself.

A catalogue entry does not mean data has been downloaded: the numerical satellite products are obtained from the listed archives. Verified on 2026-09-23.

Annual series derived from the catalogue

4 indicators · 351 records

These series are stored with the platform’s other data: they open in the source atlas, can be compared, and can be analysed in the AI lab.

Open the country breakdown on the map

The series cover only sensors with a date published on the IOCCG page. No sensor without a published end date is assumed to be still operating, so no “active sensor” series is derived. The country breakdown is limited to records whose agency is printed with a country; multinational agencies such as ESA appear in the global series only.

Synthesized datasets for algorithm testing

  • Synthesized Dataset from IOCCG Report 10 IOCCG

Synthesized Dataset from IOCCG Report 10. This dataset was developed to compare the performance of various atmospheric correction algorithms. Data are provided for open ocean (Case-1) waters and for non- or weakly-absorbing aerosols (generally present in the open ocean). Examples from coastal Case-2 waters (sediment-dominated and yellow-substance dominated waters) and from strongly-absorbing aerosols are also provided. Please refer to IOCCG Report 10 for details and cite this report as follows if you use the dataset: IOCCG (2010). Atmospheric Correction for Remotely-Sensed Ocean-Colour Products. Wang, M. (ed.), Reports of the International Ocean-Colour Coordinating Group, No. 10, IOCCG, Dartmouth, Canada.

  • Synthesized Dataset from IOCCG Report 5 IOCCG

Synthesized Dataset from IOCCG Report 5. This dataset contains both inherent optical properties (IOPs) and apparent optical properties (AOPs) for testing and comparing algorithms, as in IOCCG Report 5. Please cite this report as follows if you use the dataset: IOCCG (2006). Remote Sensing of Inherent Optical Properties: Fundamentals, Tests of Algorithms, and Applications. Lee, Z.-P. Method and limitations

Transcription
Agency, platform, date, swath, resolution, band count and spectral range are transcribed from the tables on the IOCCG sensor pages; the raw date text is kept with the record.
Derivation
The annual series are counts and extrema (highest band count, finest resolution) only. Intermediate years are not filled in and no value is interpolated.
Coverage
This catalogue is metadata; the satellite products themselves have not been downloaded into the platform. Each archive keeps its own licence and attribution terms.
